Is Morgan Hill Too Far From Silicon Valley? 4 Myths, Busted

If you work in tech and someone tells you to look at Morgan Hill, the first reaction is usually the same.
"That's too far."
We hear it a lot.
Most of what people assume about our town is either out of date or just wrong.
Here are the four myths we hear most.
Myth 1: The Commute Will Crush You
It depends on when you leave.
Outside rush hour, Highway 101 into San Jose is an easy drive. During the morning and evening rush, it slows down. The stretch near the 85 and 87 interchanges is the usual bottleneck.
Two things make it easier than it sounds.
Caltrain has a station downtown with weekday service toward San Jose and San Francisco. The schedule is limited, so check the current timetable before you count on it.
A lot of people here work hybrid, which makes a few commute days a week very manageable.
If you're in an office five days a week at peak hours, be realistic about it. If you're not, it's far more doable than the reputation.

Myth 2: It's in the Middle of Nowhere
Morgan Hill sits right on Highway 101 in southern Santa Clara County, between Silicon Valley and the Central Coast.
San Jose Airport is about a half hour away. San Francisco is around an hour without heavy traffic. Santa Cruz and Monterey are roughly 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the day.
That's not the middle of nowhere.
That's a home base with the city on one side and the coast on the other.
Myth 3: There's Nothing to Do
Start with the outdoors.
Henry W. Coe State Park, the largest state park in Northern California, is right up the road. We also have Coyote Lake, Uvas and Chesbro reservoirs for fishing and picnics, and the Coyote Creek Parkway for walking and biking.
Anderson Lake is a local favorite too, though park access can change, so check before you go.
In town, Community Park has playgrounds, sports fields, a dog park, and a skate park. Magical Bridge Park is an inclusive playground that kids of all abilities can enjoy. Downtown, you'll find Railroad Park, a train-themed playground, and the Caltrain station.
Myth 4: Every Part of Morgan Hill Feels the Same
Not even close.
Jackson Oaks, Borello Ranch Estates, Paradise, and Coyote Estates each have their own layout, HOA setup, and distance from town and the trails.
Two homes at a similar price can mean very different day-to-day lives.
That's why we wrote a guide for each one. Read the one that sounds most like you, then drive the neighborhood.
So, Is Morgan Hill Too Far?
For some people, yes.
For a lot of people, the extra space and the trails are worth the drive.
The best test is simple. Drive it at the time you'd actually be commuting, once or twice. You'll know.
If you're weighing a move, start with what you need to know before you arrive.
